Trip Report: James

James has been a longtime fixture on this site and he always has great tips. Here are some notes from his last two trips:

I went to Las Vegas at the end of Sept. and again in mid Oct. In Sept. I stayed in the Flamingo pool view studio room. The room was very large with a living room sofa, chairs, desk, coffee table etc and a king bed in a separate room. The room has lots of space but the finishings are older and there’s a view of the pool instead of the strip. I recommend the room especially for the size. In Oct. I stayed at the Cromwell (2nd time) the rooms never disappoint great furnishings, great service and one of my favorite casinos small but excellent service.

On each trip I went to a restaurant at the Rio (had casino dining credits). I think I have the kiss of death for restaurants at the Rio. In Sept. I went to Buzios the food was excellent. I had the seafood steamer pot and a Manhattan. The service was top notch I sat at the bar and was served by the chef. Excellent drinks and a great view of the pool. Unfortunately this restaurant was just announced to close soon. In Oct. I ate at Martorano (again with a food credit). Again great service and great food. I had the pasta carbonara (the best I have ever had) and the gnocchi in a white cream sauce (again very good). Like Buzio very good service but like Buzio this restaurant is going to close soon (I think my have a location at Paris but unsure).

On both trips I watched football on Sunday once at Westgate one of my favorite places for games. Good drink deals high energy crowds. On my most recent trip I watched the games at the California and the Downtown Grand. The California is a nice place to watch not too busy, good drink deals ($2 stella) and seating was easy to find in the sports book. Next I went to the Grand and watched the games outside on the sidewalk outside the sports book. Very nice set up but not busy. They had the TV’s out with games on it was very nice to sit in the sun and watch the game. They also had food deals (did not have) and $1 coors lights. I recommend both if downtown on game day.
