Your Favorites – James

I know I say it ad nauseam, but I really enjoy hearing about how other people appreciate the city we all love. James is a regular Vegas visitor and great friend to this site. Here are some of his Vegas favorites:

Name: James

Favorite hotel:

Bally’s Jubilee room (value choice), Downtown Grand (downtown), The Cromwell (if you want to spend a little more). Reasons for these are as follows: the Jubilee rooms are fairly good size and newly remodeled. Downtown grand has new rooms which are very nice, I enjoy the casino and Art bar (especially at happy hour) but a downside is the casino is not very busy. The pool area is nice especially for downtown. The Cromwell have great rooms very modern and well done lots of dark colors, I enjoy the casino even though the floor is small. Great service.

Favorite casino:

Linq is quickly becoming on of my favorite casinos. I will stay there in a few weeks so may let you know more of my thoughts in the future, I enjoy the bars for starters especially 3535 and the infused drinks. I also like the location. Another casino I enjoy the Harrahs. I know it is not for everyone but I think the changes on the casino floor have improved it tremendously they moved the casino bar to a better location, new carpeting is nice and the new food court (I have not eaten at) looks very nice.

In the world of MGM I enjoy the Bellagio very stylish and wonderful service. I do not gamble at Wynn much but it is my favorite high end casino in Las Vegas the best service anywhere. Downtown my favorite casino is the D for it fun vibe and Main Street Station who have always treated my right even upgrading me to a suite at no charge when they over booked the hotel. Boulder Highway my favorite is Sam’s Town and just off strip I like the Tuscany not a fantastic place but nice service, good food and good food prices overall worth a visit every so often.

Favorite restaurant:

Mesa Grill, Pizza Rock (value pick), BLT burger for a burger joint and Ginseng3 in the Linq for Korean food.

Go to game:

Pai Gow: a good game to play if you just want to play and have some fun. Lots of pushes not going to win much unless you play the envy bonus but you also will not lose much. I am also a sucker for any new slot machine and video poker during the day time.

Vegas cocktail of choice:

Anything at Oak and Ivory in container park. If on the strip I enjoyed 3535 at the Linq and Boulevard Cocktail Room also.

What is your favorite Vegas memory to date:

Some of my very early trips. Nothing real special but got to do a lot of new things with some good friends that I do not see often. Stayed at the Strat in the mid 90’s spent a lot of time on the north end of the strip. Visited the Desert Inn before it was gone, Westward Ho before it was gone, Stardust and New Frontier before they disappeared as well as many other long gone casinos. All trips for me have favorite memory in one way or another.

Any tips for other Vegas fans?

Do not say “I will do that next time”. Do it now because it may not be there next time. Get water from the vendors on the pedestrian bridges. Get drinks during happy hour. If you like beer go to the Tag bar in the Linq. Affordable drinks at the Casino Royal. Catch a football game at a sports book- lots of fun: I enjoy Westgate and Lagasse stadium. If you want to learn roulette I recommend the Max casino (Westin) I believe they have a happy hour with either .25 or .50. Good craft beers downtown at both Banger brewing and Main Street Station. East Freemont good place to go to kill some time in between casinos especially container park.

Besides Vegas Fanboy, what other Vegas related media to you consume:

Most of it. Vegas Chatter, vital vegas, five hundy, 360 vegas, vegas edge, tipping the odds, vegas gang, vice lounge, gambling with an edge (some), three sheets to the river, you can bet on that, comped vegas, gamblers book club, vegas tripping, vegas inc, gambling today, and many other vegas websites but less often.
