Solo Travelers Can Save on Airport Travel Using SuperShuttle

If you’re a solo traveler looking to get to your hotel from the airport without being gouged by inflated taxi prices, you may want to check out SuperShuttle. At $11 each way, it can be cost effective for loners looking to get to the Strip and downtown. Cab fares from McCarran to most Strip hotels will run $20+, so you could potentially save more than 50% on airport transportation costs. This percentage increases dramatically if you’re staying downtown.

The caveat is that it can take a bit longer to reach your destination than if you had taken a cab. The shuttles group passengers together by relative location. On a trip to Mandalay Bay, I rode with people headed to MGM, Tropicana, and Hooters. Because of the stops, it took me about 30 minutes to get to my hotel.

Another advantage of using Super Shuttle is that they are partnered with select airlines, so booking online may earn you points or miles. Currently, the partner programs include US Airways, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, and United Airlines. I earned 100 Southwest Rapid Rewards points for a one way trip. You simply have to enter in your rewards account number at the time of booking and you’re good to go.

Super Shuttle isn’t going to save you a ton of cash, but it’s certainly a nice option if you’re on a budget. If you have any other money saving transportation tips, be sure to send them my way!
