Episode #30 – Fight Weekend Trip Report

Saturday (day)

– Downtown Grand Pool Deck: this is one bright spot for DTG

DTGPooldeck

– Very inexpensive cabana and food and beverage

– Food service a little slow, but it wasn’t a big deal

– Will discuss more in a future blog post

– Made a few fight bets and briefly met listener Taylor. It was nice to a put a face to a name.

Saturday (night): Fight Night

– Scored deeply deeply discounted tickets to a viewing party at Mandalay Bay

– The ballroom was packed with all the worst types of people you could imagine

– Surprisingly, we did not witness any fisticuffs

– It was cool to see and experience, but I’d probably never do it again

– This is because the MGM casinos were a mess post-fight

– MB cab line extended into the middle of the casino

– We got the number of our original cab driver, who met us at a gas station so we could avoid the lines. Headed back Downtown where it was much more tame

– Gambled at Golden Gate which may be the most fun property to place some bets

– Lost at BJ, but still had a blast. The dealers have personality and are permitted to have fun

– Another trip to the Sigma Derby followed by a 4 am coney

Sunday (day)

– Tried to find a spot at the Golden Nugget pool, but it was far too crowded

– Back to the DTG pool deck. Locals can get in for $5 (you get a free drink voucher). Non-hotel guests get in with a two drink minimum. The pool attendant seemed unaware of this.

– Another trip to Cadillac to watch the Hawks (sorry Minnesota fans)

– Met with Jacob from Jacob’s Life in Vegas. Excited to collaborate on some videos soon!

– Gambled again at DTG to try and hit my elusive first royal. No luck.

– Made one last trip to Golden Gate to play a quick craps session. (we had to be up early to drive back to LA)

– 40 minutes and 2 shooters later, we tripled our money. I hit 7 hardways! We had the discipline to walk away and end our trip on a high.

– Overall, I broke even gambling, which as we all know, is a win.

It was quite a fun little guys trip. As with every trip, we cancelled plans and reservations we made previously and kind of just did things as they came. My next trip isn’t slated until November, when I join my wife at a conference, but that is a bit too far out for my taste. I may have to change this.
