As inexpensive games at good odds go the way of the dodo, otherwise peripheral machines become noteworthy. A friendly hint from a worthy Twitter follow, @chaunceyb3, led me to one such machine at the Mirage. It was a timely suggestion, as I was set to arrive at the property the very next day.
This Playboy Bonus Blackjack machine, located next to the cashier just outside the Love Theater, features a 3:2 payout at a $1 minimum. What’s the catch? You won’t be awarded any points for your play. Oh well. Also, the game has a heavy focus on the bonus bets. There are three of them. The digital dealers casually suggest playing them virtually every other hand, but there is, of course, no requirement to do so.
As a low roller, this game offers a great opportunity to pass some time for very low stakes. I can’t comment on the efficiency of the drink service, as I only played during the early morning with coffee in hand. I used the opportunity to brush up on my play, unabashedly keeping my strategy card right on the screen for quick reference. If you’re new to the game, this machine is perfect for learning.
If you’re interested, I’d visit soon. MGM Resorts doesn’t seem too keen on giving low minimum players decent odds, and many of their video blackjack machines have been switching to 6:5.
Thanks again to @chaunceyb3 for the heads up. Spot a decent play in Vegas? Be sure to let me know!
